Bone plaque carved in bas-relief with a domed shape depicting a naked young man with an animal at his feet, in the pose of the Lycian Apollo, leaning on a stick. Beautiful workmanship.
Egypt, Hellenistic style, 3rd/4th century

The sculpture of the Lycian Apollo that probably served as a model for this and the following plaque is preserved in the Musée du Capitole. Several examples of bone plaques derived from this subject are held in museums such as the Walter Art Museum (inv. 71.43, 71.1099, 71.57, 71.23), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (inv. 1993.516.1, 37.75.3) and the Louvre (inv. AF 6571).
