Star-shaped tile depicting a man seated cross-legged Siliceous ceramic with metallic lustre decoration Iran, Kashan, late 12th - early 13th century 14 x 13.5 cm This star-shaped facing tile is decorated with metallic lustre, depicting a man seated cross-legged against a background of foliage and dots. His face follows the aesthetic canon of "moon face" representations of the period. This style corresponds to the "large figures" style. A star-shaped tile with a similar central figure is in the Victoria & Albert Museum (inv. n°CIRC.322-1928). For examples of bowls and shaped pieces decorated with "large figures", see : Pantagloru, O. (2007), Perpetual Glory, Medieval Islamic Ceramics from the Harvey B.
