Uniface bronze medal depicting the right profile of Pierre Girard. Inscribed on the rim PETRVS.GIRARDI.CIVIS.RVTHENESIS.151[8 ?] .
Lyon, Jérôme Henry, first quarter of the 16th century, 1518 ?
Diameter: 5.7 cm

This medal is rare, with a lead example in the collections of the British Museum (inv. G3,IP.450), and two others in France, one in silver in the Cabinet des Médailles (n°78) and another in bronze, of mediocre quality, in the Bibliothèque nationale.
Pierre Girard was a resident of Rodez. He is one of a number of humanist figures portrayed by an artist long known as the "medallist of 1518", now identified as the Lyon-born Jérôme Henry, active around 1503-1539.
