Portrait of an Iberian Woman with Red Flowers in Her Hair
Oil on copper. On the back, a long label bears a stamp in blue ink of Johan J-J. Selb, receiver of the Antwerp charity office and workshops. Selb was mentioned between 1828 and 1876; he was one of the city's minor notables, and in 1846, for example, he contributed to the catalog of the Antwerp Salon. A later label, written in pen, reads "Varlot père n°11", and may refer to Louis Varlot père, an antique dealer and publisher in Troyes, active in the 1850s.
