MARTIN (Henri) - Histoire de France, depuis les temps les plus reculés jusqu'à nos jours. Paris, Furne et Jouvet, circa 1880; in-4, approx. 10,000 pp, bound in red half-chagrin, spines decorated with 5 raised bands, speckled edges. All 7 volumes. Very good condition, numerous engravings in the text. Henri Martin was born in Saint-Quentin in 1810 and died in Passy in 1883. He published the "Histoire de la France", and in 1869 received a prize of 20,000 francs from the Institut for this work. This history is best known for the last volumes of the "Histoire de France du XVIe au XVIIIe siècle". The beginning of this history suffers from gaps, and Henri Martin places his own political opinions in it. He was elected as a deputy for Paris, a member of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques and the Académie Française, and a senator for Aisne. Consultant : Mr. Philippe HENRY
