[LELOIR] - PRÉVOST (Abbé) - Histoire de Manon Lescaut et du chevalier des Grieux. Paris, Tallandier, circa 1900; in-4, XXIV-206 pp. bound in red half-maroquin with corners, spine with 4 bands. Very good condition. Antoine-François Prévost was a French historian, writer and churchman of the first half of the 18th century. He is also known as Prévost d'Exil. After an initial novitiate with the Jesuits, he joined the army. He then took his vows. After the publication of his first work, which was subject to a lettre de cachet, he fled to London, where he learned English and English history. He then traveled to Holland, where he published. He then returned to France, where he ended his life with the Benedictines. The title 'Manon Lescaut' was judged scandalous, seized and condemned to be burned. Numerous illustrations by Maurice Leloir, preface by Guy de Maupassant. Consultant : Mr. Philippe HENRY
