Rose and butterfly, Iran qâjâr, late 19th - early 20th century
Ink and gouache on paper depicting a floral composition of two roses, one open and the other closed, and several in bud, being picked up by a butterfly. At bottom right, and in the lower margin, faded inscriptions probably counting an old signature. Mounted as an album page on cardstock with a gilded border and a wide margin illuminated in gold and polychrome with hatayi decoration.
