Qalamdan pencil box decorated with European-influenced portraits, Iran qâjar, 19th century
Oblong papier-mâché plumier with painted, gilded and lacquered decoration depicting, on the top, three portraits of full-length figures, two women and a man dressed in European style, with the inscription "Ya sadiq al-Wa'ed" (O man of his word!) in Arabic in gold letters at one end. On either side and at both ends, animated cartouches of figures, several with a Mother and Child, separated by medallion portraits.

A small round box with painted decoration of Fath 'Alî Shâh Qâjâr on a throne, a nude woman in the lid and a gol-o-bolbol composition under the base, early 20th century, diam. 8.8 cm.
