Set consisting of a kulahkhud helmet and a rondache separ, Iran, 19th century
Steel, engraved and inlaid with gold and silver. The dome-shaped helmet is topped by a four-sided point and features two front plumage holders framing a mobile nasal with floreate ends, its base highlighted by a fine mesh camail. The matching rondache, circular in shape with four domed bosses emerging from the decoration, a brass sheath riveted to the edge and four attachment rings linked by cords on the reverse. Both pieces are adorned with a corolla of gold-encrusted fleurons surrounded by floral tiaras forming medallions, all set against a background engraved with dense floral decoration. At the base of the helmet and around the edge of the shield, a frieze of epigraphic cartouches with nasta'liq inscriptions inlaid in silver.
