Three poetic calligraphies, Iran qâjâr, 19th century and earlier
Poetic calligraphies of 2 Persian couplets handwritten on nast'aliq paper in black ink in reserves on a gilded background embellished with polychrome floret semis. All three mounted on album pages with colored borders and wide margins. The first, a chalipa composition with oblique verses signed Qolâm Sade Ray; the second, a chalipa composition signed Fath 'Alî (probably Fath 'Alî Hejâb Shîrâzî) and embellished with triangular spandrels illuminated in the corners; the third, with horizontal couplets, probably Safavid.
Calligraphy size: 19.5 x 10.7 cm; 11.7 x 5.9 cm; 16.6 x 11 cm; total size: 40.4 x 25.5 cm; 29.3 x 20.8 cm; 32.2 x 20.4 cm
The first heavily restored, slight foxing on the second, wear, folds, stains and small chips on the third.
