The statue of Augustus known as "Prima Porta" takes its name from the locality where it was found on April 20, 1863, in the Villa of Livia, north of Rome. From the moment of its discovery, this marble sculpture, probably derived from a bronze model executed around 20 B.C., was a resounding success and widely distributed in various materials.
