Pair of Athenian-style perfume-burner vases in ormolu and green granite, with openwork lids decorated with interlacing, ovals and flowers, resting on uprights decorated with piasters and foliage, surmounted by masks of antique women joined by garlands of foliage and flowers, terminating in claw feet surrounding a central stem with torso flutes and laurel leaves; supported by a triangular base with a frieze of engraved foliage and foliage. Louis XVI period. H.58cm, L.23cm This pair of vases is directly related to those delivered to the Duc d'Aumont at the end of the 18th century, notably by the bronzemaker Pierre Gouthière. A similar base with central stem and arched uprights can be found on a celadon bowl in the Musée Cognacq-Jay in Paris (J .277) and on a pair of porphyry vases in the Musée du Louvre (OA 5269), on which a similar foliage engraving decorates the top of the triangular base.
