Saint Ferreol and Saint Ferjeux in carved and polychromed wood. The two cephalophore saints are standing, one wearing a V-neck chasuble, the other a square-neck chasuble. Eastern France, 17th century H. 35.4 cm and 35.5 cm On a terrace (some polychromy) Saint Ferreol was a deacon and Saint Ferjeux (or Fargeau) a priest. These twin saints are both patrons of Besançon, where they were beheaded. In truth, they are the same character who has been split into two over the course of hagiographies.
