He settled in Paris in 1854, in a house on rue Daru, where he brought his famous collection of antique paintings and objets d'art from his family's château in Poland. Part of this collection was dispersed by his son at a sale on April 9, 1902.
He was a pupil of Jean Gigoux. In 1894, he was awarded a bronze medal for a triptych of Japanese subjects at the National Exhibition in Lwow.
In Paris, he was the official portraitist of the Polish aristocracy. Following the Paris World's Fair, where Japan was one of the stars, Mniszek developed a passion for large-scale compositions in which he brought together Japanese and Asian objects.
