Ferdinand Joseph Bernard Marinus (Antwerp, 10 August 1808 - Namur, 6 July 1890) was a painter of genre scenes, landscapes, portraits and marines. He also practised wall painting and decoration. Pupil of Ommeganck, Van Bree and H. Van der Poorten at the Academy of Antwerp, also pupil of G.J. Herreyns and J. Dujardin. Best known for his historical landscapes of Namur, Dinant and Rochefort. Founder (1835) and director (until 1882) of the Academy of Namur. First teacher of F. Rops. As a teacher, he evolved from a vehement romanticism toward a morose academism.
Marinus has lived in the Nice hinterland.More than likely he depicts the snowy Mercantour.
