CURNONSKY. Autograph manuscript, La Vagabonde [Un petit vieux bien propre, 1907]; 133 leaves small in-4 (23 x 18 cm), paginated 1-57, 62-137.
Manuscript entirely in Curnonsky's hand of the novel signed by Willy, Un petit vieux bien propre, with autograph annotations by Willy. Un petit vieux bien propre was published in 1907 by the Bibliothèque des Auteurs modernes, under Willy's signature alone. This manuscript shows that the novel was written entirely by Curnonsky. Curnonsky's manuscript, in black ink, covers the front pages. It contains numerous erasures and corrections, as well as additions in violet ink by Willy, who added remarks on some 50 versos, in violet ink or pencil, mainly from p.70 onwards; for example (p.54 v°): "Minne (recall in three lines that he heroically refused to be a lay director of consciences, free and optional, happy to put his old experience and (plenary) indulgence at the service of the penitents who had just knelt in his virtual confessional, made of chair sticks and broomsticks more than half roasted. Besides, he expected no reward. It is divided into chapters: I Un Sage, II Une poule survint..., III Les Rencontres de Mlle Pimprenelle de Folligny, IV Entre le "fromage" et la "vedette" [which will be divided in two], VI Une figure bien parisienne; with a small gap between pages 57 and 62.Attached is a partial copyist's manuscript (30p. in-4). Plus typescript of a Plan d'Une plage d'amour, Willy's "seaside novel" (20p. in-4), with Willy's autograph annotations.
