[D.A.F. marquis de SADE]. Jacques-François, abbé de SADE (1705-1777) commendatory abbot of Ébreuil abbey, literary scholar, uncle of the marquis. 5 L.A., 1734-1750, to his brother the comte de Sade, with autograph annotations by the marquis de Sade; 11pages in-4 or in-8, one address. Interesting correspondence from the abbé de Sade to his brother.Toulouse July 19, 1734. Autograph note by the marquis at the head: "de l'abé de Sade son frere pour lors grand vicaire de l'archeveque de Toulouse". News of the time, mentioning Prince Eugène in Philippsbourg, Voltaire, the Marquis de Surgères... [Early 1736?] Autograph note from the Marquis at the head: "de l'abé de Sade mon oncle, a son frere". He mentions the end of the war, the death of Mme de La Rochefoucauld, M. de Mirepoix who is to be tutor to the Dauphin... Ébreuil 1750. - January 26. On Abbé Amblet (who is to be the tutor of the Marquis, then aged ten): "Either I am well mistaken or you have made a find for your son. In the meantime, I'm very happy to have him with me, and he's apprenticing as a tutor to a lady friend of mine, to whom he's learning Italian; it seems to me that he's doing very well".... - October 10, on his situation at Ébreuil Abbey: "I'm staying there because, on the whole, I'm happy there and I wouldn't be any better off anywhere else. All I need is a more select society, which I feel is sufficiently compensated for by the well-being, freedom, independence and idleness that I value so highly"... - October 20, on his financial situation.Enclosed: - L.S. from the archbishop of Albi, Dominique de La Rochefoucauld, to the abbé, December 24, 1758, concerning the allocation of a house in Avignon; - a letter written from Avignon on December 3, 1778 to the president of Montreuil, concerning the abbé's inheritance in favor of his nephew, and the businessman Gaufridy.
