Théophile-Alexandre STEINLEN (1859-1923). 4 L.A.S. "Alex" (2 incomplete from beginning), [Paris August 1898], to his wife Émilie in Gometz-le-Châtel (one in Mulhouse); 27pages in-8, 3 envelopes. About his work in Paris and his album Des Chats. He sends her 50 francs and is about to "finish Gil Blas. I'd like to make a few Rires before going to see you"; he has received a letter from his mother and one from Madame Zola, who "is sorry for the loss of the little cat of which I was unable to get this news". He deals with his naturalization: "I need the date of birth (and place) of your father and mother [...] I'm tired of all these steps and would like to see them succeed at last. [...] I had a lovely lunch at Guitry's, just the two of us. After lunch came Jean Coquelin, who kept us company for a while. The theatrical gossip is very amusing"... The matter of the Album des Chats with Madame Salis is settled: "she grants me the 25 cents per copy that I asked her for, in memory of Rodolphe and the good relations we had"... He has a lot of work to do: "As soon as the Pelletan almanac is finished (Ah that almanac!) I'll have to start work on a little book promised to Piazza right away - then the Guitry poster, for which I'll only have time"... Attached is a L.A.S. from the same author to Mme Aubert at Gometz-le-Châtel, August 23, 1898, asking her to use the room she had reserved for his wife, as they are leaving for Switzerland.
