A Paris, chez Jérémie Périer, 1599. 2 parts in 1 vol. in-8, supple full vellum with ep. covers, remaining laces; (26)-228-180-(2) ff. engraved bands and initials. Stains on covers not serious, a fine copy, very fresh in its original vellum. Very rare second edition, partly original, dedicated to Henri IV, with three new books. In this much-appreciated work, Claude Fauchet, the king's historiographer, gave the History of France a critical and scientific basis, based not on legends but on written testimony. In this way, he provides an accurate picture of how medieval history was understood at the time.
