(XIXth) with laces, handwritten title on spine, speckled edges; [2]ff.-360-[1]f. Browning to the very first pages, one lace a little short, fine copy. Rare first edition of the allegorical novel by 17th-century French writer Charles Sorel (1582(?)-1674). The work includes a fictional adaptation of "La Science Universelle", as well as a historical account that ambiguously suggests the Sorel family's illustrious origins.
