FOUREAU (F.). Documents Scientifiques de la MISSION SAHARIENNE, mission Foureau-Lamy, d'Alger au Congo par le Tchad. Published by the Société de Géographie. Paris, Masson, 1903-1905, 2 strong vol. in-4, contemporary brown half-chagrin with corners, 5-rib spine, gilt title and tomaison, covers preserved; 1210 pp. continuous, illustrated with 428 figures and reprod. Photogr. in the text and 30 plates, some of them folding in fine. Without the atlas of 16 large-format maps. Rubbing to bindings, small brown ring at foot of upper spine, 2 corners slightly dulled, good cond. Elsewhere. Monumental work on French scientific and military exploration, organized by geographer and explorer Fernand Foureau and Commandant Lamy, carried out between 1898 and 1900 across the Sahara towards the French Sudan. It follows the mission organized by Paul Flatters, which ended tragically in 1881 in southern Algeria.
