WACE (Robert). Le Roman de Rou et des Ducs de Normandie, by Robert Wace, 12th-century Norman poet; first published from French and English manuscripts; with notes by Frédéric Pluquet. Rouen, Edouard Frère, 1827. Two vol. in-8, contemporary full tan calf, skilfully rebound in a recent binding, ribbed spine, gilded compartments decorated with gilt small irons, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, gilt fillet on the edges, inner lace, all edges gilt; 4-XXII-414, 543 pp. 2 line plates, engraved by Langlois. Some early annotations in ink, more recent ones in lead pencil. Old handwritten bookplate on false title of T. I, illustrated bookplate. Corners slightly dulled, foxing on first and last pages only, fine copy. "A rhymed history, in the Romance language, of the Scandinavian chieftains and dukes of Normandy, from Hasting (867) to the battle of Tinchebray (1106), the Roman de Rou, composed of 16547 verses, recounts all the facts embracing this period.
