A bronze stone head protome, the setting for a whetstone, Luristan, circa 1000 B.C. Forebody of the ibex with feet tucked under and stylistically elongated neck, on which three ribs sit collar-like just before the head. Three ribs also at the rear end of the protomes. The head is almost conical with ears protruding backwards and a slightly open mouth. Above the base of the ears, the horns with the ribs typical of the species running in a high arch and leading back to the lower neck. Beautiful dark green patina. Whetstone lost. Intact. Impressively stylized animal sculpture from the prehistoric Orient. Length 11 cm. Height 11 cm. Provenance: South German private collection, taken over from the estate of the grandfather who died 30 years ago. Condition: I -
