A modern-stringed necklace of 69 eye beads and a Phoenician face bead, early Celtic, partly Mediterranean, 5th - 4th century B.C.
Yellow-ground eye beads with blue and white eyes threaded onto a knotted leather band, partly double-rowed or "double beads" (69 individual pieces). At the bottom, a Phoenician face bead of a curly-headed man with a beard, attached by means of a modern wire, with two plain yellow Celtic beads below. Yellow-ground eye beads were produced in the eastern Mediterranean and in North Africa as well as imported by the Celts or made according to these models. Length of the opened bead strand without the face bead approx. 44 cm. The beads mostly in excellent condition.
Provenance: South German private collection, taken over from the estate of the grandfather who died 30 years ago.
