A certificate of the Spanish Inquisition of Cordoba and Jean appointing the layman Don Andres Fernandez de Cordaba y Cabrera as confidant, dated 18th November 1676
In this document, the Holy Office of the Inquisition of Cordoba and Jaen appoints Don Andres Fernandez de Cordaba y Cabrera, Knight of the Shepherds of Alcantara and Count of Torres Cabrera, as confidant (Familiar) of this authority. As a secular assistant to the Inquisition, the document grants him the right to bear arms and various privileges. At the same time, as part of the Inquisition apparatus, he is subject to special jurisdiction.
Text framed with colored, hand-painted tendrils on parchment. At the bottom the name of the Inquisition officials and seal, the latter with traces of insect damage. Traces of insect damage in the lower left corner. Vertical and horizontal crease in the center. Otherwise very well preserved document of the Spanish Inquisition. Measures 46 x 35 cm.
