Jan Wyck (attr.), Battle Scene with Turkish Cavalry, Dutch, 17th century Oil on canvas, relined on canvas. Depiction of a wild equestrian battle. A horseman in a red cloak holding a trombone occupies the center of the painting. Having defeated the enemy rider, his powerful horse continues to race forward over the corpses. In the background, further battle scenes disappear in clouds of dust. Unsigned. In a heavy wooden frame stuccoed with tendrils (restored). Old attribution label from the early 20th century on the verso: according to this, the painting description and attribution are by Prof. Dr. Ludwig W. Abels (1867 - 1937, Viennese writer and art critic). Image dimensions 55.5 x 70.5, dimensions framed 78 x 92 cm. Jan Wyck (1645 - 1702) was a Dutch Baroque battle painter. He was often entrusted with royal commissions at the English court. Condition: I - II
