A Czech and an English seal, 19th century
Two small matrices in the shape of a rounded rectangle. One made of (remnants of) gilded silver with a finely cut coat of arms of Vernier de Rougemont et d'Orchant (a Czech noble family of French origin). The other example is made of patinated iron, the motto reads: "DIEU L'HONNEUR ET MON ROI". The coat of arms probably belongs to a count active at the English or Hanoverian court. Measures 20 x 22 mm and 22 x 27 mm respectively.
Provenance: British matrix collection David Morris.
