A Gabonese reliquary guardian figure and a Ngil-mask of the Fang people
Carved from wood in the typical elongated shape, dark painted and kaolin-framed mask of the Fang Ngil group responsible for justice. Perforated on each side. Surfaces slightly rubbed. Length 58 cm. With a Byeri guardian figure. Body decoration of bone beads, goat horns, vulture feathers and sheet copper. Mirror eyes. Small defects and chips in places, restored several times. The support on the back broken (the two fragments included with the lot), the back and legs somewhat worm-eaten. Height approx. 80 cm.
