An Austrian silver-mounted scent bottle with coat of arms of the Hamilton family (Stefanie Augusta Hamilton) and Karl von Wedel, Vienna, Georg Adam Scheid, dated 1906
Colorless, thick-walled glass. Silver mount partially gilded. The hinged lid with the alliance coat of arms of the Hamilton family (Sweden) and the governor Karl von Wedel (1842 Osternburg - 1919 Stockholm) in relief. Dated "WIEN 1906" in blue enamel on the side. Hallmarked with hallmark, master's mark "G-A-S-" (1885 - 1922) and no. "23". Glass stopper minimally chipped. Dimensions 3.5 x 2.5 x 1.5 cm, total weight 20 g.
Von Wedel was a German military diplomat, Prussian cavalry general and imperial governor of Alsace-Lorraine from 1907 to 1914. In 1892 he went to Stockholm as German envoy. There he married the widow Stephanie von Platen, born Hamilton, in 1894.
