A Bornean mandau, 19th century
Iron blade widening towards the point and finely cut along the spine with silver-inlaid mata kalong and mata joh decoration (small defects). Bone grip wrapped in rattan and elaborately carved in the shape of an elephant's head with inset tufts of horsehair. Wooden scabbard carved on the obverse side. Length 72 cm.
