A bullet-proof round shield (rondache), Nuremberg, circa 1600
Distinctly domed, circular shield with a boss riveted in the center. The rivets used to fasten the shield grips in the shape of brass female heads in half relief. Shot strike mark. Lining rivets with brass rosettes in the shape of petals along the foil-curved edge. Remnants of the tassel border on the inner surface, the lining and shield grips have not survived. Filmed with rust here and there, in need of cleaning. Diameter 59 cm, weight 8.3 kg.
