A briquet sabre for officers of the Garde nationale, 1830 - 1848
Heavy, slightly curved single-edged blade (stained, partially pitted), double-edged point in the line of the back. Massive non-ferrous metal knuckle-bow hilt with ribbed grip, the motto "LIBERTE / ORDRE PUBLIC" in relief on the obverse side of the crossguard. Black leather scabbard (leather rubbed, partially blackened, seam open at the bottom) with smooth non-ferrous metal mountings (small dents), suspension button on the locket. Slightly damaged in places, signs of age. Length 78.5 cm.
