Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria - an embroidered portrait of the young emperor, circa 1850
Embroidered three-quarter portrait of the emperor in general's uniform with rich decorations, the Golden Fleece at his neck, the bicorne hat in his right hand, the left hand on the sabre, on a light blue linen cloth. The face inset from a print or engraving. High oval frame of broken oak leaves with ermine ribbons, surmounted by the imperial crown. Under glass in an oval, gilded stucco frame (missing parts) with laurel frieze. Dimensions approx. 84 x 71 cm.
