Hans von Tettenborn (1708 - 1779) - A portrait painting as a Prussian officer, mid-18th century
Oil on canvas (relined), unsigned. Half-length portrait with blue coat and aristocratic cuirass, head in three-quarter profile. In a later, richly reliefed, gilded wooden frame. Small retouched losses, partially slightly damaged, traces of age. Image dimensions 86 x 68 cm, frame dimensions 101 x 86 cm. With expertise.
Hans von Tettenborn served as a lieutenant in the personal regiment of Frederick William I. He fought under Frederick II at the Battle of Mollwitz in 1741. In September 1755, he was transferred to Infantry Regiment No. 46 (Neuwied) as lieutenant colonel, where he became colonel in December 1758 and major general in 1760. He was wounded in the Battle of Torgau. In 1763, he was assigned to Infantry Regiment No. 19 (Friedrich von Braunschweig). In October of the same year, he was transferred to Regiment No. 11 (von Rebentisch). His promotion to lieutenant general followed in 1774.
