A helmet for customs or tax officials, circa 1900
Black lacquered leather skull with brass fittings, short onion-shaped peak (bent, repairable) on a cross-guard base with four round-headed screws, neck strap. Screwed Saxon coat of arms emblem with two lions as shield holders. Flat, leather-backed chinscales, imperial and state cockade. Broad black leather sweatband, the maker's label "Matthias Müller Königl. Hoflieferant, Leipzig" and ink stamp "Stecher Freiberg" in the body. Back seam completely open. Partially slightly damaged, signs of wear and age.
