Oskar Messter - a hand atlas as the head of the aerial photos test department in Adlershof
Large-format "Andrees Allgemeiner Handatlas" in the anniversary edition of 1909. The flyleaf with Messter's calligraphic bookplate with his military career in the Imperial Air Corps, where he used the atlas as head of the aerial photo test department in the absence of suitable aeronautical charts. Measures approx. 45 x 30 cm. Heavy signs of use, completeness not checked.
Oskar Messter (1866 - 1943), German film pioneer, shot silent films of the imperial couple, aerial photographs from a balloon and the first sound pictures/sound films as early as 1903. From 1914 he was a lieutenant in the press department of the General Staff, where he shot the first German newsreels.
