A long German flintlock pistol by Christoph Joseph Frey in Munich, circa 1730 Smooth bore barrel of wild Damascus in 14 mm caliber, silver front sight in the shape of a mascaron on top, signed "C. Ios: Frey In Mynchen" in gold above the breech. Finely engraved flintlock, cock, frizzen and spring cut. The frizzen damaged, the action defective. Lavishly carved, beautifully grained full stock with horn nose cap, cracks in the area of the lock bedding of the grip as well as on the right side of the forestock. Gilded brass furniture with depictions of equestrian battles between rich vine work. Also gilt escutcheon with an unidentified aristocratic coat of arms. Wooden ramrod with horn tip. Length 51 cm. Exceptionally high quality pistol in untouched, good condition. Condition: III +
