A Raphael system revolver by Laine in Paris, ca. 1865
Cal. 12mm Raphael, SN. without, six-shot. 145 mm barrel with slightly matt bore. On the barrel company name "Laine Bte Arob à Paris (Tir national)". Original white finish minimally stripped and polished. Smooth, dark walnut grip panels. Lanyard hole. DA/SA function. Mechanically in good order, only cylinder transport unreliable. Length approx. 28 cm. Rarity!
The system developed by George Raphael, a close friend of Abraham Lincoln, has an extremely complicated loading procedure, which robbed this modern weapon of its practicality. Nevertheless, a few examples were used in the US Civil War. It is assumed that all weapons were produced in France, which is supported by the occasional pieces of French origin that appear.
