- 48p, engraved frontispiece, 109 plates, 1 f. (table of plates), 1 f. blank. Copy printed on Hollande paper. Excellent condition. Bound in period red half-maroquin with long grains, red paper boards, smooth spine decorated with ornamental greeks and vases. Minor wear to lower corners of boards. First edition of this collection by the architects Grandjean de Montigny and Famin, who won the Prix de Rome in 1799 and 1801. As such, they were guests at the Villa Medici for 4 years, studying Tuscan architecture. This work follows in the footsteps of Percier & Fontaine's first collection on the palaces of Rome. Grandjean et Famin's work is characterized by the use of line engraving, allowing for the rendering of essential elements and proportions rather than ornament. The plates include plans, elevations and perspectives of buildings in Siena, Arezzo, Pisa and Livorno. The present copy was exhibited in New York and Fontainebleau during the Charles Percier exhibitions.
