Jacques Ignace HITTORF, Les antiquités inédites de l'Attique contenant les restes d'architecture d'Eleusis, de Rhamnus, de Sunium et de Thoricus, par la société des Dilettanti,
Paris, Didot, 1832
1 vol. in-folio: xiip., 2f., 63p., 60pl.
Fine 1920s binding in red half-maroquin, spine with 5 faux-nerfs. A very good copy.
Comprising a text published 15 years earlier in English and the iconography of original engravings by Hittorff, this is the French translation of The Unedited Antiquities of Attica, published in 1817 by archaeologist and architect William Wilkins, a member of the famous Dilettanti. The work is organized into 9 chapters, each corresponding to a particular site, with Wilkins' text preceding Hittorff's plates.
