LEFEBVRE Le Raincy en 1884 & 1885. Chez l'auteur, 1884-1885. 2 volumes, oblong in-4° format, (I) title - table & 25 plates; (II) title - table & 30 plates. Publisher's full brown percaline bindings, smooth spines, gilt titles, historiated boards. Sent by the author. Original edition of these bucolic views of the commune of Raincy, created some 15 years earlier by the detachment of part of the Livry territory. While most of the documentation focuses on the château built by Le Vau and its gardens, redesigned in the late 18th century and owned by Louis-Philippe, our albums concentrate on a bucolic vision of the commune's small streets and working-class dwellings. Like Boulogne, Le Raincy attracted Parisian high society, both bourgeois and aristocratic, eager to breathe the fresh air just a few kilometers by train from the capital. The interest of these plates lies in the location of the views, which are undoubtedly very different today.
