Charles PERCIER, "Secretary executed in Paris for Mr. V." Plate 20 from Recueil de décorations intérieures, 1801
Very fine watercolor engraving (375 X 285 mm).
The work was offered for sale in both line and enhanced versions. The only known example of a period color plate. A first-edition proof on Hollande paper, before the addition of the signature "Par Percier et Fontaine" under the framed fillet. A rare watercolor proof before the letter, of extraordinary quality, of which only this copy is known. To be compared with the 12 plates preserved in Pierre Fontaine's papers at the Art Institute of Chicago, which show trials of coloring on proofs also before the "Percier et Fontaine" signature.
