John PLAW, Ornate farm or Rural improvements
London, J. Taylor, 1800
1 vol. small folio: title, warning, 13 p. and 1 f. catalog, 38 aquatint plates printed in sepia.
Bound in antique half vellum.
John Plaw, an English architect of the late 18th century, wrote three books on villas and cottages, but like Krafft, little is known of his achievements. In this collection, Plaw sets out to propose all manner of ornaments and small picturesque buildings, suitable for decorating a gentleman-farmer's property, in beautiful settings. Aquatint, not widely used in architectural books, imitates the effect of wash.
