Alfred GOBERT (Paris, 1822 - La Garenne-Colombes, 1894), attributed to.
Rectangular, molded ebony jewelry box with Venus toilet.
The four reverse-cavet sides and the top of the lid are adorned with grisaille enameled plaques enhanced with polychrome and gold.
Renaissance style, Napoleon III period.
Height 15.5, Width 21.5, Depth 16.5.
(small accidents).
Description of decoration:
- The top depicts Venus with mirror surrounded by jeweled loves and vase-fiole of perfume among blooming roses.
- On the front, two allegorical loves are adorned, one with a laurel wreath for glory, the other with a feather for posterity. They hold the Wöytt family coat of arms (per pale azure and gold, a dextrochere armed argent holding a hammer of arms) stamped with a mantling helmet tared from the front.
- On the sides, allegorical loves of Painting and Sculpture display a monogram composed of the letters "F" and "B".
- The back features allegorical loves of Music, Science and Fame.
The three-tray interior is upholstered in red velvet.
