LOI, confluence of the Oubangui and Lualaba rivers, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO
Large drum used to alert the tribe to imminent danger and transmit messages to the neighboring village. Accompanied by other instruments, it honored Nyam-Bondoli, the spirit of war. Carved on four powerful feet, it evokes a long-necked antelope with a dynamic head.
Wood, old honey patina and fine marks of use.
