Part of a group of drawings of similar dimensions, on the theme of Hercules and Antaeus, with some variations in posture.
This drawing is related to an album of thirty-eight leaves in the Bordes collection, described by James Byam
Shaw in his book The Robert Lehman Collection. Italian Eighteenth-Century Drawings, VI, New York, 1987. The set was bought by Colnaghi from the Paul Prouté gallery in Paris in 1936.
Tiepolo drew inspiration from various models, including those of sculptors such as Giambologna (1529 - 1608) and Pollaiolo (1429 - 1498).
