France, Second Republic - Presidency Louis Napoléon (1848-1851). Pistolet à percussion de Marine modèle 1849 de la Manufacture Nationale de Châtellerault, 1851. Cal. 15,2 mm. Serial no. "115". All metal parts in steel with white polished finish. Smooth round barrel with rear sight, five short thunderbolts, dated "M.N 1851" and stamped "M" under a star in a rhombus for Édouard MAHIEUX, "* C *" in a polygon for Pierre CHASSEPOT and "* A *" in a polygon for Charles ARCELIN. Tailstock marked "Mle. 1849". Percussion rear plate signed "Mre Nle de Châtellerault" and stamped "L" under crown in a rhombus for Louis LAHAYE. fitted with belt hook with cursive "B" control stamp in a rhombus for BISCH. Nailhead ramrod fixed under the barrel with a chain and "G" control mark in an oval for René GARCON. The trigger guard is hallmarked "L" under crown in a rhombus for Louis Lahaye and "F" in an oval for Louis-Joseph FAVARCQ. Brass fittings with "F" in an oval for Louis-Joseph FAVARCQ and "L" under crown in a rhombus for Louis LAHAYE. All screw heads are stamped "12". Long-barrel walnut stock with good hallmarks, including a partially legible stamp with a fine "M.N. Aout 1951" label and "AC" hallmark under crown for Charles ARCELIN. Stock cap with steel ring, stamped with the navy anchor. Functional mechanism, with two clear, play-free cocking notches. Very clean inside barrel. Complete. 31 cm (barrel 17.2 cm). (Fine, bold markings, small superficial crack to the wood at the front of the lock, otherwise very good condition).
