France, Révolution-Directoire (1789-1799).
Revolutionary-style mounted chasseur officer's saber based on the 1792 model.
Cast brass mounting with one hilt branch, flat filleted cap with oval rivet knob and long line-decorated tail. Very wide joint arc near the cap, line-decorated, ending in a right angle on the straight cruise ending in a faceted button quillon. Wooden spindle entirely filigree with copper wire and two brass wires twisted into a chain. Fluted baguette mounts, 6.5 cm long. No hallmark or maker's mark visible on the frame. Strong, slightly curved, flat-backed steel blade, stamped with the lictor's beam at the heel. Wooden scabbard covered with black waxed leather, with three long brass fittings decorated with line decoration and then cut into a scalloped pattern, and two suspension rings with welded brass studs. Asymmetrical scalloped steel stinger. Good saber in its original condition, Tourangelle house, never previously in collection.
(Wear and minor wear, brass chain filigree of the fusee damaged and "stopped" formerly with two small brass spikes above one of the auricles, blade with small stained gray patina, black leather of a crack in the lower part of the scabbard replaced. Fairly good condition.)
98 cm (Blade 84 cm).
