France, Third Republic (1870-1940). Model 1822/99 artillery officer's saber from the Klingenthal factory. Cast brass mounting with two secondary branches decorated with palmettes at the base, cap with button dome bead and short tail edged with a laurel leaf garland. Watermarked brown horn handle (watermark missing). Guard plate ending in a beak adorned with a 7-branched palmette surmounted by 2 small acanthus leaves arranged in a cross. Tie missing. Slightly curved blade with small gray patina, hollow front and flat back with "Coulaux Ainé & Cie à Klingenthal" marking on the back (old blade, marking corresponding to an 1840s production). Nickel-plated and oxidized steel scabbard with two suspension rings and asymmetrical sting. Comes with a small strap with black silk cord and fringed tassel in gold trimming. 105 cm (Blade 90.5 cm). (Wear and tear, frame painted with old "bronzine orangée". In original condition).
