Scientific autographs Two handwritten letters from the physicist and Nobel Prize winner Albert Einstein (1879-1955) to the Dutch physicist and chemist Peter Debye (1884-1966) dated April 1922, each in ink on lightly textured paper, written on one side, dated and signed. 28 x 19 cm (sheet) and 28 x 22 cm (sheet). Some yellowing and signs of age. Small stains, dog-ears, one sheet slightly torn. Provenance: From the former property of the Dresden physicist and holder of the Chair of Experimental Physics (Low Temperature) at the Technical University of Dresden: Prof. Dr.rer.nat. habil. Ernst Hegenbarth (born 1933). These two autographs describe Einstein's slightly critical attitude towards Debye's theory of the specific heat capacity at low temperatures, written on April 12 and 18, 1922. Debye's answers can be found in the Einstein Papers, Vol. 13, documents 143 and 155; the second letter offered here has already been published there under number 150. Scientific autographs. Comes from the estate of the Dresden physician and professor Ernst Hegenbarth. Those two letters describe the slightly critic position of Einstein against Debye's theory of specific heat capacity of solids at low temperature. They are dated April 12 and 18, 1922. The responses by Debye can be read in the published Einstein Papers, Vol. 13, no. 143 and 155. The second of the offered letters here is already published in the Papers in no. 150.
